Job Description for: Health Program Assistant is a full-time position responsible for the overall management and coordination of certain health related programs with the aim of increasing community capacity and strengthing community health programs and services by providing general supports to member community Health staff.
Accountability
The Health Programs Assistant reports to and works under the direction of The KO Health Director .
Responsibilities:
Administrative duties:
- provide financial analysis and reporting of various health programs
- act as an intermdiary for funding agencies related to reporting
- complete reporting for various KO Health programs
- provide accurate record keeping on various KO Health programs
- provide the Chiefs and the KOHAC with financial and program summaries
- to provide techinical and financial support to the Tribal Council and it's First Nations communities in the field of health
Personal, Policy and Staffing Duties
- Provide personal assistance and advice to the community Health Directors; including recruitment, interviewing and discipline procedures Training and evaluation of KO health staff and community staff
- Communicating and interpreting policies and procedures to staff
- Handle client grievance produres ensuring quality program services are delivered
- Ensure supervisors fullfill their Responsibilities
Other
- to indentify,develop and oversee health project and intiatives
- coordinating and supporting KO health and staff community care workers in development and operation of the c health community- based health care programs and services
- working with other First Nations and health care agencies and service providers to ensure community based health care services are developed and supported adequately
- Identify training opportunites for the community workers
- research and explore various health topics in order to build capacity for presentations and workshops for health promotional purpose; by identifying and/or facilitating health information sessions in the communities
- travel to the communites to assist with various health program, health goals, presentation,ongoing training and assist with the reporting needed.
- maintain awareness of community program needs and oppurtunities
- advocate for First Nations in the delivery of health care services to ensure quality programs are delivered within the communities.

- act as back up to the Health Director in absence
- extensive travel and attendance at various health related meetings as required and provide input/liason on behalf of the KO communites.
- laison with goverment and other agencies and maintain a mutual awareness of needs, problems and policies
- develop forms and prgram related information and convey to communities
- assist employees and community health directors with problems encountered in thier work by maintaining contact via telephone, email and video as well as community visits
- ensure community employees sign up for training sessions, oversee program activities and ensure targets are met be aware of the current health related issues and keep First Nations informed
- to communicate with community members and agencies working with the communities to identtify areas where training and to develop new programs
- work as part of health team in order to provide and coordinate holistic health services
- perform other duties as required
Minimum 5 years experience in health field in the area of delivery of community based programs or equivalent.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to speak Oji-cree an asset
Computer skills a must.
